Daffodil Garden Hat

"Daffodil Garden Hat" Acrylic - Mary Maki Rae 2015 (c)
Working on a "new" Garden Muse in a very bold new color composition.
Imagine Red, Lush Lavender, Chrome Yellow, Magenta, and two Garden Greens (yellow green & teal green) all together. . . .
I liked the way her dark hair brought all the other colors into focus. . . .

I've been concentrating on some "Art Marketing" - hope you will take a look at the  pieces shown above. All of the Originals were painted with Acrylics on Arches Watercolor Paper - except the Bouquet in a Teacup on Blue Gingham which is on Canvas.
Spring and Pastel Colors are in the air - but I really Enjoy these Images with a little pop of black for contrast and definition.

I also Enjoy Collecting and Designing Black & White Objects such as the Mask -Three-Way Mirror and The vintage 18th Century Gentleman in the Gold Frame in the first Image (He has a matching 18th Century Lady-not shown.)
I'll be posting more soon. . . .

The Bunny Book Prints

"Waking Up" Serigraph 9"x 11" By Mary Maki Rae (c)
Robert and I Hand Silk-Sreened this group of three Childhood Scenes when our daughter was about five or six years old - as samples of my illustrations for a book I was working on at the time.
The one pictured above - was inspired by her and her bright sun-filled bedroom with it's brass bed - Yellow gingham curtains & bed skirt - and her classic wooden toys.
Robert cut out all the stencils for the printing process by hand - and it still amazes me how deftly he captured the the child's expressions and all of the details that define the art image.
We screened a Limited Artist's Proof Edition of 30 - including samples of the text pages with modern folktale-like border designs - to send to publishers.
(Very Nice Prints of the scenes can now be found here:
