"Reindeer"
Handcarved Sculpture
By
Robert W. Rae
May 6, 1939 - December 20, 2015

********
Our Beloved Robert -
A Husband, Father, Artist,
And Friend to Many
will Always be Greatly Loved
and Remembered for His Art and Humanity.
His Spirit will be within or Hearts
Forever . . .

I love you, gentlest of Ways,
Who ripened us as we wrestled with you.

You, the great homesickness we could never shake off,
you, the forest that always surrounded us,

you the song we sang in every silence,
you dark net threading through us,

You began yourself so greatly
on that day when you began us -
and we have so ripened in your sunlight,
spreading far and firmly planted -
that now in all people, angels, Madonnas,
you can decide: the work is done.

Let your hand rest on the rim of Heaven now
and mutely bear the darkness we bring over you.

                   --Rilke

*********
I can never Thank you many Doctors, Nurses, and Caregivers
enough for all your kindness, skill, and love
you have given to Robert during his long journey.
(A long struggle with Kidney disease and Stroke
to his Spine)
Blessings to each and every one of you.
I will always remain so grateful. MMR

"Winter Scene" By Mary Maki Rae 2015(c)
***************************************

Look for me - I have not left you . . .

I am a thousand winds that blow.

I am the diamond glint on snow.

I am the sunlight on ripened grain.

I am the gentle Autumn rain.

When you wake in the morning hush,

I am the swift, uplifting rush

Of quiet birds in circling flight.

I am the soft starlight at night.

Look for me - I have not left you.

North Country Muse

"North Country Muse" Paintings By Mary Maki Rae - 2015(c)

She is walking on the path to home - with a gathering of Juniper Boughs and Red Berry Twigs - perhaps she will lovingly create a wreath to decorate her Wintry Cottage . . . .

"I love the dark hours of my being.
My mind deepens into them.
There I can find, as in old letters,
the days of my life, already lived,
and held like a legend, and understood.

Then the knowing comes: I can open
to another life that's wide and timeless."

Fall Leaves & Peruvian Lillies

"Fall Leaves and Peruvian Lillies" - Mary Maki Rae 2015(c)
*********************************************
In this painting I'm enjoying the soft color transition from Fall into the Winter Season.
The background puts me in mind of a warm tweedy sweater - The tall whimsical vase that inspired the long curved flow of the leaf branch could be an ultimate Late' coffee cup - and I'm quite charmed by the two mellow blues.
I need to add another small branch of Golden leaves and maybe some Maple Seed pods or such.
The "Imported" or Greenhouse-grown Peruvian Lillies are so fun to paint - it's nice that they so gracefully last forever-!

Fall Garden Muse

"Island Garden Muse" Acrylic- Mary Maki Rae (c)2015
********************************************
Working on a new Garden Muse Theme - this one looks kind of like a "Peruvian Princess". Really enjoy that dark hair and the contrast effect it creates as a background for the Flowers. Thinking about what she should wear - lace - floral patterns - or ethnic designs with triangles and stripes.
(May try some Fall colors soon. . . .

A Summer bouquet of garden flowers - mostly Hydrangeas with one vibrant Sunflower.  I've arranged them in one of my most often used gray watering buckets. I've been concentrating on some "Art Marketing" - hope you will take a look at the  pieces shown above. All of the Originals were painted with Acrylics on Arches Watercolor Paper - except the Bouquet in a Teacup on Blue Gingham which is on Canvas.
Spring and Pastel Colors are in the air - but I really Enjoy these Images with a little pop of black for contrast and definition.

I also Enjoy Collecting and Designing Black & White Objects such as the Mask -Three-Way Mirror and The vintage 18th Century Gentleman in the Gold Frame in the first Image (He has a matching 18th Century Lady-not shown.)
I'll be posting more soon. . . .

The Bunny Book Prints

"Waking Up" Serigraph 9"x 11" By Mary Maki Rae (c)
****************************************
Robert and I Hand Silk-Sreened this group of three Childhood Scenes when our daughter was about five or six years old - as samples of my illustrations for a book I was working on at the time.
The one pictured above - was inspired by her and her bright sun-filled bedroom with it's brass bed - Yellow gingham curtains & bed skirt - and her classic wooden toys.
Robert cut out all the stencils for the printing process by hand - and it still amazes me how deftly he captured the the child's expressions and all of the details that define the art image.
We screened a Limited Artist's Proof Edition of 30 - including samples of the text pages with modern folktale-like border designs - to send to publishers.
(Very Nice Prints of the scenes can now be found here:
