"French Country Style" Sofa & Chair #1

The Blue Fabric for the Sofa and Chair we're Upholstering for Clients
*********************************************************

We're just now starting on a new Upholstery project - A Vintage 1930's Sofa and Chair. Our Clients would like a Traditional Approach - A la "Pierre Deux- French Country Style". (See fabric pictured above - it's Lovely-!) It will be traditional inside too -- Tied springs, horsehair & cotton padding, and classic blue nails, that Robert loves to use-! Plus down cushions.
It should be quite a journey, working from the wooden frame on up to the fabric surface-!
More about the process and final results - Later. . . . .

Fanciful Fabric Collage

Mannequin and Collages By Mary Maki Rae 2009 Copyright

What to do with a stack of saved small pieces of extra Canvas, a box of collected Fabrics, and some Vintage Buttons and Laces-? Think Green. . .! Now is the time, more than ever-!
I use the unsized canvas for backing on my "Fabric Collages" - It's also perfect for Handbags, Tea Cozies, Hot Pads, Aprons, and Decorative Pillows - It's endless-!
Also - find a small or medium sized Men's Denim shirt - preferably Light Blue. Shorten the Hem and Sleeves - then Applique Floral Motifs and a Touch of Lace at the Pocket - And you'll have a Feminine and comfortable cover-up-! My favorite to wear when Painting-!

I work from sketches and measurements - just like in Upholstery

I love to use those "Mother of Pearl" vintage buttons as an accent in the Floral Collages and for Handbag closures - they shine with such an attractive soft glow-!

Black&White/Urban Chic

I've always been fascinated by the Power of Black&White as an accent containing dramatic effect. The way it's used in the following Interiors as a "total concept", is absolutely seductive and Beautiful-!

The Designer has used in this Living room, a Black-on-Black embossed wallpaper that set off not only a Stark White mantel, French Art Deco Sofas in White Muslin, and a Black& White Abstract Painting - But, also an Antique Chinese-inspired French Mirrors, a Venetian Chandelier, and a Carpet reminiscent of Aubrey Beardsley's Art-! And amazingly it All Works-!

Same Living room, seen from the other side - Nice touch to have the french doors open on to a terrace - for a feeling of "Freshness"-!

In the Sitting Room is another boldly graphic wallpaper with an interlocking Black and Gray Pattern - Which handsomely compliments a shell-encrusted commode.

The Designer: Renea Abbott - the owner of "Shabby Slips", a Houston-based Interiors Firm and Studio. Printed in Veranda - Nov-Des-2008
